What we do and don't do
What we do
- Read and cross-check manufacturer specifications against retailer listings.
- Aggregate published measurements from independent labs such as RTINGS.
- Analyze verified-buyer feedback at volume, looking for repeated failure patterns rather than individual reviews.
- Track US street pricing, because a recommendation is only valid at a price.
- Re-verify every product page on a fixed schedule and stamp it with the date.
What we don't do
- We do not run our own lab. Unless a page explicitly presents our own photos and measurements, our analysis is research-based, and we say so rather than implying hands-on testing.
- We do not accept payment for placement, rankings, or a favorable verdict.
- We do not let commission rates influence which product wins a comparison.
- We do not publish a recommendation for a product we cannot source specifications for.
Our sources, in priority order
- Independent measurements. Where a reputable lab has measured a unit, those numbers outrank everything else.
- Manufacturer specifications. Authoritative on what a product contains, unreliable on how well it performs.
- US retailer listings. Used to confirm the exact model variant sold here, current price, and availability.
- Verified-buyer feedback at volume. Used to surface reliability and long-term ownership issues that specs never show.
Scoring
Scores are relative to a product's price tier, not absolute. A budget product scoring well means it is excellent for its price — not that it outperforms a flagship. Where we display a rating sourced from a third party, that source is labeled on the page. Where the score is our own editorial judgment, it is labeled as the PageBen score.
Update cadence
Every product page carries a “last verified” date. We re-check specifications, pricing, availability, and affiliate destinations on a rolling 90-day cycle, and immediately when a product is refreshed, discontinued, or drops significantly in price. Buying guides are revisited at least annually and are removed from our sitemap when the advice no longer reflects the current market.
Affiliate policy
PageBen participates in the Amazon Associates Program and earns from qualifying purchases. Affiliate links are marked with rel="sponsored" and disclosed next to the buttons themselves, not only in a footer. The commission is paid by the retailer and costs you nothing extra. It does not change which product we recommend — a losing product in a comparison often carries the same commission rate as the winner.

The factors below are what actually decide a ranking within each category we cover.
What we weigh
- Measured frequency response and tuning, where published by independent labs
- ANC and transparency performance relative to price tier
- Battery life with ANC on, plus quick-charge behavior
- Bluetooth codec support matched to the reader's phone (AAC for iPhone, LDAC/aptX for Android)
- Comfort and clamping force reports from long-term owner feedback
- Multipoint pairing, wired fallback, and repairability
What keeps a product out
- No published driver or codec specifications
- Discontinued models with no reliable US retail stock

What we weigh
- CPU/GPU class against the actual workload, not headline benchmark numbers

- RAM and storage upgradability — soldered memory is called out explicitly
- Thermal design and sustained-load behavior as reported by reviewers
What keeps a product out
- Configurations not sold in the US
- Models superseded by a same-price refresh

- Ergonomics, VESA support, and USB-C power delivery

- US carrier band support and eSIM behavior
- Storage tiers, expandability, and the price of the tier we actually recommend

- Case sizing, band ecosystem, and water/dust rating

- Smart platform, ad behavior, and whether an external streamer is advisable
- Price per inch within the same panel class
